Department of Statistics Overview
The Department of Statistics at Arsi University was established in 2018. The department aimed at promoting statistics education in Ethiopia. It also aimed to produce qualified graduates in Statistics that are adaptable with problem solving capacity, to give statistical consultancy services to those who need and to participate and lead socioeconomic and other studies where statistical methods are applicable.

Mission
In reach students to coordinate, collect, compile, analyses and disseminate high quality and best practiced official statistics to assist informed decision-making, and discussion within the government, business and the media, as well as the wider national and international community.
Vision
Graduates can able to support evidence-based decision-making processes at both policy and planning levels.
General Objective of the Program
To train middle level statisticians in order to meet the demands of the socio-economic, business and development sectors in the country.
Specific Objectives of the Program
To train middle level statisticians who can serve in collecting, processing and analyzing statistical data;
To train middle level statisticians who can assist and conduct statistical research undertakings and provision of statistical services.
To train middle level statisticians who can organize and produce data in health sectors, financial, agricultural, educational, research institutions and industry sectors.
To produce middle level statisticians who can manage and supervise the activities of statistical units or offices at both government and nongovernmental organizations;
To produce potential candidates for graduate studies so as to meet the demand for high level statisticians who can teach and conduct research at HEIs, and other research and training centers.
Graduate Profile
A B.Sc. graduate in Statistics is expected to:
Demonstrate competence in data collection, management, summary and analysis required at many production and development sectors day to day activities,
Plan and conduct sample surveys and experimental designs,
Use statistical software to carry out necessary computation for statistical analysis of data,
Write clear statistical reports and communicate the results of statistical analyses in nontechnical language,
Demonstrate professional ethics in his/her career,
Assist in statistical research and the provision of statistical services in research establishments, business and government and non-government institutions,
Contribute to the ongoing development of the country in his/her area with sense of responsibility, and
Supervise and/or manage activities of lower-level statistical units or offices.
Supervise and/or manage data processing activities in health sectors, financial, agricultural, educational, research institutions and industry sectors

Degree Nomenclature
Up on successful completion of the program, the candidate will be awarded the following degree. In English “Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics” and in Amharic “የሳይንስ ባችለር ዲግሪ በስታቲስቲክስ”
