1. Historical Background Department of Economics

Department of Economics, under College of Business and Economics was established as a department in the academic year 2006/7 with 5 staffs and 120 regular and 110 extension students in former Adama University and later named Adama Science and Technology University.  Currently, the department has 24 active academic staff among which. One associate professor (Ph.D), four assistant professors (Ph.D.), one adjunct professor, 18 masters holders and four Ph.D candidates. This implies that the department has well qualified and competent academic staff to successfully deliver the proposed program.  More than 600 students in the regular, extension and weekend programs including the satellite campus of Adama and, Addis Ababa (Nefas Silk) and Bishoftu are attending the class of BA degree in Economics and Masters of Science in development. Currently the department launch Ph.D program in Economics and new MSc program  in Industrial Economics and Innovation. To strengthening the program the department create official linkage with Ethiopian Policy Study, Ethiopian Institute of Agriculture Research and Ethiopian Economic Association
