A team led by Dr. Mustefa, Vice President for Academic Affairs, participated in the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Program hosted by Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf in Germany from 15 to 21 February. The program brought together academic staff from diverse institutions to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education through practical engagement and international collaboration. The mobility focused on strengthening practice-oriented education and fostering closer ties between universities, farms, and industry—aligning closely with Arsi University’s mandate as an Applied Science University.
Participants engaged in academic discussions, workshops, and field-based learning sessions to identify strategies for integrating experiential and hands-on learning into undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, emphasizing curriculum innovation, applied research, industry linkages, and student-centered teaching approaches. Constructive discussions with Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf officials explored potential collaboration in joint research initiatives, staff and student exchanges, curriculum development, capacity building, and sustainable institutional partnerships.

The program also served as a valuable platform for networking and knowledge exchange, with representatives from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, South Eastern Kenya University, and several African nations, including Uganda, Togo, Senegal, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, in attendance. A significant highlight of the program was a visit to Schneider Farm, which showcased an integrated model of animal production, renewable energy generation, and organic manure utilization—exemplifying sustainable and circular resource management.
Overall, this engagement has reaffirmed Arsi University’s commitment to academic excellence, curriculum enhancement, and the cultivation of international partnerships, while providing insights and collaborative opportunities that are expected to advance practice-oriented education and expand the university’s global engagement.
