Message of the Vice President

Arsi University works around three main objectives- teaching, research and community services. Research contributes to the improvement of teaching- learning quality through producing innovative methods, generating technologies, and production of empirical and local examples for class notes and curriculum development. Research helps identify societal and environmental problems and recommend alternative solutions for policy making and implementation. Research is also used for evaluating theories, projects, policies and programs and suggest alternatives. Research findings also serve as source of community service projects development. It is obviously a means of technology production, adoption and dissemination.

Community services are provided for the community and with the community to the community free of charge. These services are provided in order to solve societal, environmental and other community problems that are identified either by research or by request of the community and/or an organization that represents the community. Community services are also given with industries, governmental and non-governmental organizations that give the services as their duties given by governmental proclamation or as corporate social responsibility in addition to their business objectives. Studying, compiling, publishes, developing and promoting the culture, language and history of the community (nation) in which the university is located is also one of our major community service activities.

In addition to the regular research and community services, our staff are engaged in paid consultancy works that range from short term trainings to undertaking national and international surveys. Encouraging performances have been observed in this regard too.

National and international conferences are also the means through which we disseminate research findings and create linkages with national and international organizations and individuals. Our staff also publish their research findings in national and international journals. Arsi University has also its own journal, Arsi Journal of Science and Innovation, that is published twice a year.

With this brief introduction, I kindly invite you to work with Arsi University in supplying research and/or community service problems, literature and document provision, studying at our colleges, material and    financial contribution and any means you think important for our people and the university
