Agriculture and Environmental Sciences College of Arsi University held discussion with delegates from GIZ, on the 3rd  June, 2021. The discussion was focused on the joint project proposal entitled “Establishing Kitchen based Food Processing Business Incubation Centre at Arsi University". Based on the proposal GIZ ET (GIZ Project Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation) shown an interest to establish the centre by funding 200,000.00 euro. The delegates said that they are delighted with what they saw in the university and promised to strengthen collaboration with Arsi University.

Dr. Adem Kedir, Vise President for Research and Community Services, welcomed the delegates and briefed them about Arsi University and the potential areas of collaboration. Dr. Samuel Mezemir, University – Industry Linkage Director, on his part presented the document, which reveals the need of establishing the Incubation Centre. He also noted the objectives and the impact of the Incubation Centre on assisting the teaching-learning process, researches and community services carried out by the University.

Following the presentation, participants made an exhaustive discussion on points that need clariffication and how to put the proposal into practice. University’s management members, academic staff of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences College, and Food Science Department members were attended the discussion.

Moreover, in collaboration with Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (Germany)), Arsi University along with two Ethiopian Universities (Hawasa University and Bahir Dar University won the project entitled “TOMATO - Harnessing of Efficient Vegetable and Fruit Production, Processing and Marketing Systems in Ethiopia through Practice Based Education and Participatory Research.” The total budget of the project is about 718,388.00 euro.  It is a four year project, which will be commenced in July, 2021. The project focuses on the following activities. 

  • Quality Assurance in Teaching
  • Empowering lecturers by providing them further education opportunities to enhance their qualification
  • Promotion of young talents:
  • Promotion of research cooperation and cooperation with the agricultural industry
  • Baseline Survey
  • Impact Evaluation and Communication.
