Arsi University has launched the 6th round national Green Legacy Initiatives and associated health volunteer activities, bringing together key stakeholders from across the university and health sectors.
The event was attended by university higher officials, Asella City Mayor, Arsi University academic and supportive staff, and health professionals from Asella Teaching and Referral Hospital.
During the program, the seedlings plantation and health screening initiatives were officially kicked off by H.E. Sime Tsegaye, Mayor of Asella City Administration, together with Dr. Fikadu Mitiku, President of Arsi University.
Arsi University noted that it has more than 185,000 different species of seedlings in its nursery site, serving purposes such as trees for food, commercial production, forest development, and ornamental needs.
On this occasion, over 5,000 coffee seedlings and other varieties were planted to mark the launch of the Green Legacy activities. In addition, free health care screening was provided for participants as part of the health volunteer component of the initiative.
The university expressed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community wellbeing through integrated programs that support both green development and public health services
