Arsi University Hosts Capacity-Building Training on Dairy Technology for Students in Collaboration with Sunchon National University of South Korea and KOICA.

Arsi University and Sunchon National University jointly organised a two-day (January 16-17, 2026) training program focused on enhancing the human capacity, specifically for students from the Animal and Veterinary Science departments, centred on Dairy Technology. The training, conducted by esteemed professors at Sunchon National University in Korea, provided participants with valuable insights into various aspects of dairy production.



The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr Regasa Ayana, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. In his speech, Dr Regasa emphasised the college’s ongoing efforts to improve the university’s dairy farm through innovative technologies and practices.
In his opening remarks, Dr Hailu Fikadu, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, expressed gratitude to the Sunchon National University team for their collaboration. He encouraged the trainees to maximise their potential and take full advantage of the knowledge shared during the sessions.
Prof. Nam Ki-Chang, Vice President of Academic & Educational Affairs of Sunchon National University, appreciated the collaboration between the two universities through different programs like capacity building, student and staff exchange, and research and development. He emphasised that this collaboration should be strengthened and broader in the future.






The training sessions were diverse, covering critical topics such as: Animal Reproduction and Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Feeding, Dairy Processing and Manufacturing, Animal Genetic Improvement and On-site Technical Consultation on Artificial Insemination.
Participants also engaged in practical sessions, gaining firsthand experience and insights into improving the quality of milk and milk products. The training concluded with a collaborative discussion on future initiatives between Arsi University and Sunchon National University. This valuable program was made possible through funding from KOICA, WCM, Seoul F&B, and Sunchon National University, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in advancing educational opportunities
