Arsi University College of Social Science and Humanities Hosts Capacity Building Training for Tourism Experts

Arsi University College of Social Science and Humanities conducted a capacity-building training program aimed at enhancing the skills of tourism experts from various woredas in the Arsi Zone. The training focused on the utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies for mapping tourism sites.





The event was inaugurated by Mr. Mustefa Deshu, Dean of the College of Social Science and Humanities. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Mustefa emphasized the critical role that GIS and RS technologies play in identifying tourism destinations within catchment areas. He highlighted how these tools improve the efficiency of tourism management and contributions to the nation’s economy.
Dr. Gebi Hussen, Director of Community Services at Arsi University, delivered the opening speech, underscoring the university’s core mission of community engagement. He reiterated the importance of equipping local experts with modern technological skills that can aid in the sustainable development of the tourism sector. The training sessions included practical workshops and interactive discussions, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience with GIS and RS applications.
Mrs. Rukiya Kedir, head of the tourism office in Arsi zone, expresses her gratitude for the College of Social Science and Humanities’ efforts in training tourism experts. She highlights the importance of equipping them with GIS and remote sensing technologies.
