Arsi University College of Business and Economics Holds Successful Workshop on Research and Community Service Engagement
On January 25, 2025, the College of Business and Economics at Arsi University conducted a highly successful Research and Community Service Engagement Review Workshop. The event aimed to enhance the quality of research and community service initiatives undertaken by the college’s academic staff.
Mr. Nafyad Tola (Assistant Professor), the Delegate Dean of the College of Business and Economics, welcomed participants to the workshop and reiterated the core mission of higher education institutions: teaching, research, and community service. He emphasized that all project initiatives should align with thematic, multidisciplinary, and applied approaches. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of involving students as co-initiators in such initiatives, encouraging active participation from the workshop attendees.


Following the welcome address, Dr. Messele Kumilachew, Chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee, presented an overview of the evaluation processes conducted so far, highlighting key achievements and challenges encountered along the way.
Subsequently, Mr. Muhammedawal Kaso (Associate Professor) and Mr. Abebe Terefe (Assistant Professor), Directors of the Research and Publications, and Community Services Coordinator , delivered speeches to formally inaugurate the workshop. Their opening remarks set a collaborative tone, underlining the importance of constructive feedback in advancing research efforts and emphasizing the need for future improvements in project design and execution.





The workshop brought together researchers, academic staff, and stakeholders from various organizations in the surrounding community. Initially, 13 research concept notes and 10 community service project proposals were submitted by academic staff of the College. After careful and blind review, a total of 8 research proposals and 4 community service engagement proposals were presented in today’s workshop. Each presentation sparked thorough discussions, with participants providing insightful comments aimed at refining the projects and enhancing their potential impact.
The insights gained from this initiative are expected to significantly improve the quality of research and community engagement efforts within the college. The College of Business and Economics remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting excellence in research and community service, ensuring its projects effectively address community needs and contribute to advancements of business, economics, and technology.
