Arsi University-College of Health Science in-service training (IST) center was established in the year 2015 G.C with fulfilling human and infrastructure requirements set in the Ethiopian national in-service training implementation guideline. Since its establishment, the center has been providing training on different health and health-related issues for health professionals in the region and beyond.
As clearly stated in the ministry’s Continuing Professionals Development (CPD) directives and guidelines, there is a high need for continuous professional development to maintain professional competence in an environment of numerous challenges, rapid organizational changes, information technology, increasing public expectations and demands for quality and greater accountability in the delivery of health services.
To this end, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) has adopted and customized the national CPD guideline and directives with the essential aim of improving the health status of Ethiopians through the delivery of quality health services by competent health professionals and helps to establish a CPD system in the country through outlining the process of accreditation of CPD accreditors, CPD providers, and CPD courses and then to linked CPD with re-licensure.
Based on nationally endorsed CPD directive and guideline, Arsi University College of Health is accredited as both CPD provider and accreditor by Ministry of Health in 2021. Since then, our CPD Center has been working as one of the potential areas for health workforces’ capacity building and learning center.
Regarding Human Resources for Health (HRH) training, we have trained more than 2950 health workforces of which about 2350 of them issued 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their professional re-licensure.
Beyond our geographical location, in 2021/2022 our CPD Center has been provided capacity building training for health workforces in Tigray and Benishangul Gumuz regions in collaboration with the Ministry of health and other developmental partners.
Furthermore, Arsi University CPD center implemented Integrated Human Resources Information System (I-HRIS) to materialize the adoption digital technology in health care system. Therefore, Arsi University CPD center is currently providing trainees and trainers Certificate restricted with QR code to prevent forgery certification.
In 2016 E.C based on its excellent track record in CPD implementation, Arsi University College of Health Science CPD center has been selected by Oromia Health Bureau to Organize the first Regional CPD center forum which was held on April 18, 2024.
In the 2024 national assessment of the CPD Center, Arsi University College of Health Science CPD center ranked first nationwide and received a certificate of recognition and award from the Ministry of Health.
As CPD accreditor, Arsi University College of Health CPD center is accrediting both CPD Providers and CPD courses that fulfilled the national CPD provider and course accreditation requirements.
