A Briefing session on Accreditation and Outcome-Based Education at Arsi University

Arsi University held a significant session organized by the Office of the Academic Vice President, focusing on Program and Institutional Accreditation, as well as Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The meeting featured presentations from key academic leaders, including Mr. Nafayad Tola, Director of Academic Affairs, who addressed the principles of OBE, and Mr. Behailu Zenebe, Director of Quality Assurance, who elaborated on the accreditation processes for programs and institutions.

The discussion was chaired by Dr. Fikadu Mitiku, President of Arsi University, alongside Dr. Mustefa Bati, Academic Vice President. Deans and vice deans of academic and quality assurance from all colleges and directorates such as registrar, finance, planning, research and community service actively participated in the session.

Both directors highlighted the multiple benefits of implementing OBE and the accreditation process, emphasizing their importance at the student, institutional, and national levels. Participants raised concerns regarding the points presented and identified areas requiring attention from the university’s top management.

Attendees from the College of Health Sciences shared their experiences with the program auditing process, advocating for other colleges to comply with the accreditation standards set by the Education and Training Authority (ETA).

In conclusion, Dr. Fikadu Mitiku provided way forward, assuring participants of his support for the ongoing accreditation processes and the enhancement of outcome-based education at the university. This session marks a critical step in reinforcing the university’s commitment to quality education and institutional excellence.
