The CoEBS has the following undergraduate programs:

ü      BA in educational psychology

ü       BA: BA in Educational Planning and Management

BA: BA in Applied Psychology

Psychology department is one of the three departments found under College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. The department of psychology has been offering both BA and MA programs for regular. In the past 9 years, the department of psychology has graduated many students, who are currently working in different regions and sectors on different fields.

Currently the department of Psychology has two postgraduate programs namely:  Master of .Arts in social psychology and Master of Arts in industrial psychology.

The department of psychology is committed to produce well-trained professionals who can utilize the principles, theories and practices of psychology and thereby meet the demands of community in general and governmental, and nongovernmental in particular.

PROFILE OF ACADEMIC STAFFS IN PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

To meet its objectives of producing qualified and competent professional in the field of psychology, the department of psychology is well organized with quailed academicians. That is, currently, the department has, 7 PhD holder, (of which, one is associate professor, and 5 are assistant professors), 8 MA holders (of which 3 are on study leave for PhD program), and 1 BA holders in the position of assistant lecturer.

STUDENTS’ PROFILE IN PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

As of 2009 E.C. academic year, the department of psychology has a total of 84 students in its regular program. Among this, 40 of them are 3rd year students, 20 of them are 2nd year students, and 24 of them are 1st year students.

OBJECTIVES OF PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

The general objective of the department of psychology is to produce professional who are competent enough to apply psychological knowledge, and theories in solving community wide problems.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The department of psychology is working toward achieving the following specific objectives:

  To produce graduates who can carry out quality research on various psychological, educational and, social problems of the community.

  To produce well-qualified professionals who are capable of providing counseling services for individuals who are in need of such services.

To provide the necessary public services to individuals, institutions, and groups regarding problems and issues pertaining to the field of psychology.

Based on the vision of Arsi University, the department of psychology hopes to be a center of excellence and realistic model in producing professionals in applied psychology.
